Work, work, and more work!

October 2, 2007

I spent the whole weekend in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) at Stanford and now I’m on campus working on papers and group projects. Saturday I worked 7pm-7am, then drove home and slept 9am-3pm on Sunday, then worked Sunday 7pm-7am, drove home and slept Monday 10am-3:30, woke up and hung out with the kids, stayed up way too late working on my online Nursing Leadership course, and then had to get up this morning (Tuesday)  and make it to SFSU by 10AM. In the brief hours I spend at home and awake lately I feel like I’m just there to grab some food and get a quick rundown of all the cool stuff K. and the kids have been up to before I tuck myself into bed for the day or work on school crap. Right now my head is buzzing from only 18 hours of sleep in the last 4 days and trying to assimilate all the information I’ve been learning in the PICU. I thought I would get really tired working nights, but all the adrenaline keeps me awake. It’s actually hard to get to sleep afterwards. All the beeping monitors and screaming children have become like a song stuck in my head, but strangely I love it and I can’t wait to go back for more. Now if I can just get through the rest of nursing school (only 2 1/2 more months!), pass my state boards, and get hired at Stanford I will be totally set and I can go back to seeing my family once in a while, and at the same time pursue my dream of becoming a baby-saving super hero critical care nurse. I can’t believe how much I totally fucking love my life! YAY!
